In celebration of International Women’s Day 2026, Bohío Creative invites women artists working in Portugal and Spain to submit work for a group exhibition on Creating and Holding Space.

​

So often, the idea of carving out space for ourselves has been labeled indulgent, radical, or even defiant. But at its core, it’s survival. It’s how we breathe, experience joy, and it is how we stay whole. This exhibition focuses on the ways women create, shape, and protect space for ourselves and for each other. The space to grow. The space to rest. The space to just be.

Our identities are not singular; they expand, deepen, and transform as we live in community. Artists are welcomed to explore how women make room for one another to be complex, imperfect, loud, quiet, soft, fierce, grieving, joyful, and all the in-betweens.

 

Creating & Holding Space is an invitation to examine the power of being there for each other. It is a celebration of community forged through connection, shared experience, and the spaces we expand for one another.

Submission Guidelines

All submissions must be sent via the online form no later than 1 February 2026.

​

​Submission Materials: Artists may submit up to 5 pieces.

  • High-quality files (JPEG, PNG, PDF, audio or video)

  • Each piece submitted must include the following details to be fully considered: title, dimensions, medium, year and price

  • A short artist statement (up to 300 words) connecting the submitted work to the theme

  • File naming format: Lastname_Firstname_Title.jpg

 

Eligibility:

  • Open to women artists living in Portugal or Spain

  • Must be 18 years or older

  • All mediums are welcome, including visual art, painting, ceramics, mixed media, photography, installation, audio, and written work.

 

Artwork Requirements

  • All accepted work must arrive ready to hang or display

    • 2D works must include braided picture wire

    • Fragile works should be protected under plexiglass if needed (no glass)

    • Installations must include clear, simple setup instructions

  • Artists are responsible for shipping costs to and from the gallery

  • A prepaid return shipping label must be included for shipped works

  • All selected works must remain for the full exhibition period (6–27 March 2026)

  • All artwork must arrive by Saturday, 21 February 2026

 

Selection Process

All works will be evaluated on the following criteria

  • Originality and voice

  • Relevance to the exhibition theme

  • Overall visual and conceptual impact

 

Sales & Commission

  • Works may be available for sale at the artist’s discretion

  • Bohío Creative retains a 30% commission on sold works

  • Payments to artists will be processed within 30 business days after the exhibition closes

 

Shipping & Display​

  • Artists cover shipping or personal delivery costs

  • Shipped work must include a return label and arrive no later than 21 February 2026

 

Permission & Copyright​

By submitting, the Artist grants Bohío Creative permission to use images of accepted artwork for promotional purposes, including the gallery’s website, social media, press materials, and exhibition marketing.
Bohío Creative will always credit the Artist.

The Artist retains full copyright and ownership of all submitted work.

Originality & Rights

​

  • The Artist certifies that the submitted work is original and does not infringe on existing copyright.

  • If identifiable individuals appear in the work, the Artist is responsible for securing model releases.

  • If the delivered piece significantly differs from its submitted image, Bohío Creative may withdraw it from the exhibition.
     

Submission constitutes acceptance of these terms.
